Downwind Ocean
Harness offshore ocean energy.
Building on the legacy of the popular Downwind Performance board, the Downwind Ocean is slightly more compact and maneuverable while also being a faster paddling shape. The core evolution lies in its hull design, which is now displacement rather than planing, leading to greater paddling speed and straighter tracking—without needing the length of the prior Performance board.
Speed
Access ultimate speed.
The new displacement hull results in greater paddling speed and straighter tracking, perfect for chasing down open-ocean swell. It also requires less effort to get up to speed, so when you’re digging deep for that last popup of the run, the board gives you every possible advantage.
Maneuverability
Surf the entire run.
Thanks to the faster shape, the Ocean is shorter than the prior Performance board per volume. If you’re looking to lay down snappy S-turns all the way through your run, the Ocean is the board for you. With less length in the way, pumping responsiveness is also significantly improved.
Control
Put down the power.
The new shape features more rounded rails and softer chines that provide consistent, comfortable stability so you can put down paddling power. The flatter deck offers a wider standing area, letting you position your feet exactly where you want them for maximum control at high speeds.
More Grip, More Control
Progression starts here.
The Downwind Ocean’s deck grip is tailored to deliver maximum control and comfort for downwind progression. Similar in feel to the deck grip on our Surf foilboard, it features unique micro-cutouts through the main grip section that lock you in for critical maneuvers while remaining flat enough for easy foot repositioning. Dual central arch bars and rear corner blocks add traction, while blue markings indicate the foil track location underneath.
Proven Construction
Lighter, stronger.
A wraparound PVC layer adds protection to the rails from paddle strikes and improves nose and tail durability for shuttle runs. Proprietary carbon fiber foil tracks are keyed directly into the stringer fibers for a fully integrated construction.
Dual Carbon Stringer System
Maximum rigidity.
The ultra-stiff double-skin carbon PVC sandwich, combined with Armstrong’s i-beam top-to-bottom dual stringers, delivers exceptional structural rigidity and durability. Proprietary carbon fiber foil tracks are keyed directly into the stringer fibers for complete integration.
Forward Geometry Foil Track
Easier paddle up and improved responsiveness.
In 2021, Armstrong introduced the Forward Geometry concept to improve foilboard modularity and performance. Designed to work with any brand of foil, this design places the foil more centrally to reduce swing weight and boost responsiveness. The Downwind Ocean carries this legacy forward with FG foil tracks positioned well forward for maximum maneuverability and a hyper-connected feel on foil across all board sizes.
